Posted in Buffet (Cuisine), Cuisine, Food and Drinks, Hors d'oeuvre, Kuala Lumpur, Location, Malaysia, Western by samlee860407 on October 3, 2011

As per my previous post, hotel guest staying in the Royal Club Room in Le’ Meridien Kuala Lumpur will have exclusive access to their Royal Club Lounge at level 33.

The lounge is nicely design with floor to ceiling glass window offering some great view of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

Royal Club Room guest can enjoy this lounge whole day, either having some small chat here while enjoying the view, or using the free wireless broadband, or even use the 2 iMacs here. Besides, you can also enjoy free flow of coffee and tea, bottled mineral water, soft drinks and bottled fruit juice too.

Hors d’oeuvre, or better known as appetizers or starters are served daily from 6.00Pm to 8.00Pm too. I personally feel that starting at 6.00PM is a bit too late for me as I usually have my dinner quite early. Starting at 5.00PM or 5.30PM will be much better, but that’s for me.

Food choices are limited with some salads, fruits and some fusion dishes.

After a tiring bus trip from Penang to Kuala Lumpur, and only have a sandwich since 10.00AM, the first thing we wanted to do is have some nice little food to fill up our stomach after our check-in.

While all restaurants inside the hotel are closed at 3.00PM besides Latest Recipe, we had no choice but to dine here.

Favola @ Le’ Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Posted in Cuisine, Food and Drinks, Kuala Lumpur, Location, Malaysia, Restaurant (F&D), Western by samlee860407 on August 5, 2011

Favola is an Italian restaurant located at level 8 (just by the pool), Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur. The ambiance here is great, spacious seating pair with some really comfortable chair and light music, making it a romantic place to dine in.

Before I am here, I had heard that both Prime and Favola served amazing complimentary bread, and yes, it’s true! The bread here is just AMAZING! I don’t really know the names of the dip bar the olive oil with balsamic vinegar. But it’s just just just great!

I and LY almost finish up all the bread before we force ourself to stop, just so that our stomach won’t be full even before our apetizer is served!  10.0/10

Kaffa Kafe @ Straits Quay Penang

Posted in Cafe, Cuisine, Food and Drinks, Location, Malaysia, Penang, Tanjung Bungah, Western by samlee860407 on July 6, 2011

Straits Quay is a project by the Eastern & Oriental Berhad, it’s also Penang first and only retail marina up to date. Many had also told me, how beautiful it is, and how wonderful and different from other malls.

HOWEVER, NONE tell me that Straits Quay is a ghost shopping complex in the noon time, even in the weekend! The mall is still empty with retail stores, however, it’s totally a different case with restaurants.

I absolutely no idea which to dine in, since most of them are new to me. In the end, Kaffa Kafe is my choice. Reasons? iPad available!!!!

There are 6 iPad in the restaurant, available for customers who dine here. They also have their menu inside the iPad. However, games are limited since almost all of the games are demo version, but with free wifi available, hell yea!

For an appetizer, ours is quite a heavy one, Grilled Beef Bites @ RM13.90. Well, the beef itself is juicy and not hard, BUT no matter how hard I try, I just unable to bite it into smaller pieces lol. Hence….. 1.5/10

Soul Kitchen @ Penang

Posted in Cuisine, Food and Drinks, George Town, Location, Malaysia, Penang, Restaurant (F&D), Western by samlee860407 on June 22, 2011

Already falling in love with Soul Kitchen after I had my breakfast there, here am I again. This time, for lunch.

For starter, we have Tomato Soup @ RM8 served with organic bread. The soup is quite good but I do hope it’s cooked much more thicker. 6.4/10

Our freshly baked Pizza Parma Ham @ RM20, which is the thin crust style pizza which I like. However, it’s not really rich in flavour and I would very much appreciate if more cheese were used :D

Besides, as I am not a huge fan of the salty Parma Ham and the bitter rocket, I don’t enjoy it much. 6.0/10

Qba Latin Grill & Bar @ Westin Kuala Lumpur

Posted in Cuisine, Food and Drinks, Kuala Lumpur, Location, Malaysia, Steak, Uncategorized, Western by samlee860407 on June 15, 2011

Okay, as per my one of my previous post, where I am hugely disappointed on the steak served, I decided, I should try another steak house during my short stay in Kuala Lumpur! My choice? Qba Latin Bar & Grill @ Westin.

It’s Monday, and being a weekday, the restaurant located underground of Westin Kuala Lumpur is sorta empty.

Being served first is the bread, but no way the standard is near to Prime @ Le’ Meridien Kuala Lumpur. The bread is to go with olive oil, which is quite bland in terms of taste, hence just a bite of it, I gave up (just like in almost all other places that served free bread before my food).

Maybe that’s just because I hate most bread unless it was reallllly delicious, but well…

The waiter is a friendly one, and for appetizer, we get the Hokkaido Scallops and Western King Prawns with Romesco Sauce @ RM38. Well, I must say the Romesco Sauce is actually very unique and I like it very much. However, something I can’t accept is, for such a restaurant, the prawns served ain’t fresh at all! The prawns is soggy and does not have the sweet seafood taste that it should have. The scallop itself was okay though. 6.0/10 (the score will be much much higher if the prawns are fresh)

Soul Kitchen @ Penang

Posted in Cuisine, Food and Drinks, George Town, Location, Malaysia, Penang, Western, Western Breakfast by samlee860407 on April 19, 2011

Located at Lebuh Muntri @ Penang, Soul Kitchen is a very unique and special place to dine here in Penang. Why so?

Well, first of all, it’s a small family business, operate by the couple Michele and Tonio. The building is already quite a history itself  and is part of the heritage pre-war building.

Besides, rather than serving the traditional local Chinese/Malay/Indian hawker food you can find all around in Penang, it served Italian food instead.

My beautiful Cappuccino @ RM5.

And LY’s freshly squeeze and flavourful Orange Juice @ RM5. Price might a bit steep you might say as we are not dining in a air-conditioned restaurant, but the orange juice is pure and good, unlike those you get in normal coffee shop where you taste water and sugar syrup more rather than orange.

La Bodega @ Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

Posted in Cuisine, Food and Drinks, Kuala Lumpur, Location, Malaysia, Tapas, Western by samlee860407 on April 11, 2011

Unlike most people who are happy with French Fries or fried chicken wing when drinking, I am not. I always hate it when the bar I went served mediocre to lousy food, or those with limited choice and expansive. While those that served good food the choice of beer will be limited or expansive.

Luckily, La Bodega is the saviour,  unluckily the nearest La Bodega is like 400km far from my house. Sigh…..

The thing I love about La Bodega is the wide choice of finger food aka Tapas, which is inexpensive and in good quality. The choices of wine, cocktail and beer is amazing too.

20101226 La Bogeda @ Kuala Lumpur-7

For the starters, I and LY opt for the Mediterranean Style Seafood Soup @ RM26 which is quite appetizing, prepare our stomach for the upcoming dish. 8.0/10

Prime @ Le’ Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Posted in Cuisine, Food and Drinks, Kuala Lumpur, Location, Malaysia, Steak, Western by samlee860407 on March 25, 2011

Okay, I am actually very reluctant to post this, especially after the sorta good service from Prime, making me really wanted to give them a 2nd chance before I post this, but seeing that it seems there are more and more negative review I read (from Lowyat forum and here and even 1 of the commentors from kampungboycitygal’s blog regarding his friend), well…..

I know I might get a lot of hatred mail or even shrugs or disbelieve, well….

Okay, to start it off, it’s LY birthday, I decided to bring her to Prime, the highly sung best place to have steak in Malaysia. I am especially excited when I saw that their Blackmore Wagyu promotion is back, hence I can finally taste the melt in mouth kind of steak for the first time!

Red meat must go with red wine, and since I am not a Wine expert at all, I asked the waiter to recommend me a wine which is not dry and sweet, hence I was recommended the Terrazas Mabec @ RM190, which is exactly what I want. Kudos to them!

20110321 Prime @ Le' Meridien Kuala Lumpur

After we made our order, the bread is here. Yes, it’s definitely the best ever bread I had tasted in restaurant. I especially love the Emmental Cheese & Black Pepper Bread which is just amazing to go on with the 3 types of butter which is 1 infused with spinach,  1 is salted and the other is with poppyseed (from left to right). The bread itself is already amazing and great on it’s own, and with the super creamy and soft and generous butter, it’s just AMAZING! Seriously a perfect score for a bread! 10.0/10

Suffolk House @ Penang

Posted in Cuisine, Fine Dining, Food and Drinks, George Town, Location, Malaysia, Penang, Western by samlee860407 on January 8, 2010

No, I am not visiting someone who is extremely rich, or visit a museum, this is Suffolk House, where I came to fill my tummy up. Just if you don’t know, Suffolk House was the first “Great House of Penang”, and serves as the residence of Francis Light, the founder of the British settlement on the Penang Island. It served as Goverment House in the 1810-20′s and critical political issues, such as the founding of Singapore was discussed here.

The environment here is really great, especially for a crowded place like Penang, where land is limited. By judging so many old trees around, and even a river (Air Itam River) beside it, one will think that it is located totally out of George Town, which was not.
