The famous Hon Kee porridge will be my last post of my Petaling Street food hunt trilogy which lead to me missing my bus, which is not my fault at all! Argh!! Transnasional you are gonna lose me as your customer forever!
Back to Hon Kee porridge, I was walking around Petaling Street and see what will be my breakfast, and suddenly I notice, eh…. Hon Kee! I only tried them at Lot 10 Hutong before, and I must say they are quite good. I never know I actually walk past them many times since it’s located diagonally opposite to the Air Mata Kucing stall that I patronize everytime I am there. Sigh……
Since their stall is very small, there isn’t a place for us to sit there. Luckily, they did set up quite a number of tables directly in front of Hong Leong Bank, and luckily it’s Sunday and the bank is closed. The porridge here is as smooth and nice as their branch in Lot 10, a good breakfast to start the day!
The fish is raw, but a dip into the hot porridge, the thinly slice fish was cooked almost instantly! Awesome! I also learn from my past mistake. This time, I dump in all the fish into my porridge when it’s still hot, to greatly minimized the chances I eating half cooked fish again. 7.8/10
The “Yao Char Kuih” is quite disappointing though. It’s not as crunchy, maybe really cooked too early and left it there for too long already. 5.0/10
Besides, although hiring those indon/bangla workers to serve is perfectly fine, but if you want to hire, at least la hire someone that can understand basic Chinese/Cantonese/English/Malay! Hiring those that simply can’t understand what you are saying is just going to annoy your customers as they will be frustrated when ordering, and even more frustrated when the food served is NOT what they order.
I for example wanted to order 1 bowl of raw fish porridge, 1 bowl of century egg meat porridge, and another bowl of century egg + raw fish porridge, but the waiter just can’t seems to understand what am I saying. In the end, only 1 bowl of raw fish porridge and century egg meat porridge were served. I also heard another customers are complaining that this particular worker always give the wrong order in the past since he basically just can’t understand what the customer talking. Why are you hiring someone like this? Sigh….
