One Corner Cafe Super Hokkien Mee @ Penang

Posted in Chinese, Cuisine, Food and Drinks, George Town, Hawker, Hokkien Mee (Prawn Mee), Location, Malaysia, Penang by samlee860407 on January 26, 2010

Well, although Penang is famous for it’s Hokkien Mee, or better known as prawn mee, I always can’t seem to find really great Hokkien Mee at Penang. Most of the one that I tried is just above average (although still way better than those at KL one). I can’t even think of a place to bring my friends from KL to treat them a good Hokkien Mee when asked, until recently, my mum introduce this….

Super Hokkien Mee, or “wan lai fuk hokkien mee”

It’s just a normal hawker stall located at a food court area, but the thing is, almost 80% of the people inside the food court is eating Hokkien Mee. My mum told me once she came and notice the food court is very empty, all because that the Hokkien Mee stall is closed! When we ordered, we was told that we need to wait at least 30 minutes, so while waiting patiently, I went and order this:

Rojak Buah 2.5/10

And oh mai, this is definitely 1 of the worst Rojak Buah I ate before liao. Highly not recommended.

While waiting for our Hokkien Mee, we also notice that there are many people who take away. The amount they order for take away is huge as most of them take away more than 10 packets each person! This is madness.

After almost 45 minutes, our Hokkien Mee finally arrives. Waiting for 45minutes for a bowl of Hokkien Mee is a record for me, as I never wait so long for a bowl of Hokkien Mee before! It better be good! 8.5/10

And luckily, it did not disappoint me. The soup is nice with good enough prawn taste, and prawns were given generously too. The mee was cooked nicely. It’s a bit spicy if you add in all the chili they give you, so taste it yourself first before you decide how much chili to add in. It’s definitely one of the better Hokkien Mee at Penang.

Super Hokkien Mee is located at One Corner Cafe, just behind Penang Plaza (FIMA).

Super Hokkien Mee, definitely a good place to try good Hokkien Mee at Penang. However, although it’s better than the average one, I still don’t think that this is the best Hokkien Mee in Penang, and I will continue my hunt for the best one!

Total Damage: RM3.50 per portion (or is it RM3.00?)

Agree, the long wait is the killing point. However, I feel that the taste was out compare to last time when they were located at rangoon road.

Try the Classic Coffee Shop Hokkien Mee (Opposite padang Brown/ Perak road). They are brothers but the Classic one is much better (and friendlier)
